LEARN TO SKATE PROGRAM
The Learn To Skate program is designed for a new skater with little or no skating experience. This program is for boys and girls ages 4 years of age and older who would like to learn to skate. We will teach forward skating, turning, stopping and some backward skating in our 6-week session. All sessions are 1 hour long and will have 30 minutes of instruction along with 30 minutes of free skating. All sessions will be on Saturday mornings with varied times usually starting around 9:00 am, but no later than 11:30 am. The only equipment required is a helmet (Ice Hockey Helmet with cage is preferred) and a pair of gloves. Extra padding is optional (knee pads, elbow pads, padded pants), but highly recommended. Ice skates are available at the rink. Once the participant completes the program, the individual may advance to our "Learn to Play Hockey" Program with approval of the instructor. LEARN TO PLAY HOCKEY (CUBS)
The Lawrence Flames "Learn to Play Hockey" Program (Cubs) is offered to all skaters 5 years old and older who have completed our Learn To Skate Program or can already skate forward. Learn to Play Hockey will focus on skating and developing beginning hockey skills. Our Learn To Play Hockey Program is designed to introduce the basic skills and rules of Ice Hockey in a relaxed, fun environment. The program consists of skating, puck handling, passing and shooting with the use of various types of cross-ice games. Our Coaches will follow the USA Hockey "Initiation Program" which is a 4 part manual with progressive lesson plans throughout the season. Each "Practice" is 1 hour long and will occur on most Saturday and Sunday mornings. There will be approximately 30 split ice practices, which will start in early October and end in March. This program offers enrollment at all times throughout the season. Cubs will play at least 4 cross-ice games against local opponents. Please contact Jon Brush cell: (609) 647-9181 or email:

RECREATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE (RHL)
For the 2010-2011 season, the Lawrence Hockey Association intends to play a "local travel" program at all levels. The program is designed to create an exciting game environment for the players and their families, and to provide opportunities for players to experience different styles of ice hockey. Our teams will travel to area rinks to play other House level teams. The Recreational Hockey League is intended to further enhance the player's ice hockey skills, positional play and understanding of the game of ice hockey in a fun and relaxed environment. Every player will have an opportunity to improve their own set of skills through our team practices, skill sessions, and equal playing time in games. Guest instructors and coaches will appear during the season to enhance your child's ice hockey experience while offering them different types of coaching styles. Practices will be held primarily in the morning, with start times varying week to week. We will try to rotate the teams to receive an equal number of early ice times. All practices and home games will be played at The Lawrenceville School Loucks Ice Skating Rink. We anticipate that the RHL program will consist of two divisions for the 2010-2011 season:
MITES- RHL (Ages 8 & Under, Boys & Girls) Instructional Hockey for boys and girls with some skating ability. Focus will be on skating skills, stick handling, passing, shooting, positional play and rules of the game. All Coaches will be USA Hockey Certified. Practices are on Saturday and Sundays starting in October and ending in March. There will be approximately 30 split ice practices and 8 games (4 home & 4 away). There is at least a 3:1 practice to game ratio.
SQUIRTS - RHL (Ages 9-10, Boys & Girls) Instructional hockey focusing on skating, stick handling, passing, shooting, positional play, and team play. Our goal is to get the kids ready to advance to a Pee Wee hockey team for our in house or travel program. All practices will be planned and run by a USA Hockey Certified Coach. There will be approximately 30 split ice practices and 10 games (5 home & 5 away). All practices and games will be on Saturdays and Sundays. There is a 3:1 practice to game ratio.
PEE WEE - RHL (Ages 11-12, Boys & Girls) Instructional hockey focusing on skating, stick handling, passing, shooting, positional play, and team play. Our goal is to get the kids ready to advance to our travel program. All practices will be planned and run by a USA Hockey Certified Coach. There will be approximately 30 split ice practices and 10 games (5 home & 5 away). All practices and games will be on Saturdays and Sundays. There is a 3:1 practice to game ratio.

TRAVEL TEAMS
The Travel Teams compete under the banner of the Lawrence Flames in the New Jersey Youth Hockey League (NJYHL). The NJYHL is comprised of about 33 hockey clubs located throughout New Jersey, and Rockland County, New York. The NJYHL is Zone 3 of the Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association (Atlantic District) of USA Hockey.
For 2010-2011, the plan is to skate about 9 teams at the following levels: Mite, Squirt, Peewee, Bantam, Midget U16, and Midget U18. During the 2009-2010 season, our Midget team competed at the AA levels. If any of the 2010-2011 teams reflect the talent level, in the opinion of the coaches, the coaches may recommend entry into the AA level of play.
The Travel Hockey Player for 2010-2011 will typically have 2 practices per week. There will be split practices (shared with another team) and solo practices. Practices are on weeknights beginning in August. Typically, there are two games each weekend. The League season begins in October and ends in February, except for Midgets, who will start in September. Half of the games are anticipated to be at home, half away. The average travel time to games from the Lawrenceville School is 1 hour and the maximum is 2 hours. NJYHL rules permit each team to schedule a maximum of two home league games before 6:45 AM (no earlier than 6 AM); therefore, each team could have 2 away and 2 home 6 AM league games per season. Please realize that we are at the discretion of the rinks and the NJYHL when it comes to ice times. League play will not utilize all of your team's games. Non-league games will be swapped (home and home) by the team managers, typically with non-league teams. This is left entirely to the individual teams to provide variety. Travel teams participate in tournaments. The fee for 2010-2011 includes the entry fee for 2 tournaments. Midgets will enter 3 showcase tournaments. Parents are responsible for all travel expenses. Teams may decide to enter additional tournaments and the individual teams are responsible for those entry fees.
